Building bridges between diaspora and communities in Africa

AWE’s work spans continents, connecting African diaspora communities in Europe with grassroots initiatives across Africa. This cross-continental approach reflects our belief that change happens through solidarity and shared commitment.

In Germany, we engage diaspora communities in awareness-raising, fundraising, and advocacy. Many diaspora members bring unique perspectives—they understand both the challenges facing communities in Africa and the opportunities for partnership and support from Europe.

This connection is not one-directional. Diaspora communities benefit from staying connected to the communities they came from, finding meaning and purpose in contributing to positive change. Meanwhile, communities in Africa gain resources, visibility, and solidarity.

Our bridging work creates networks of mutual support and learning. It challenges simplistic narratives of “help” and instead builds relationships based on respect, reciprocity, and shared values.
